Casa de Velasco, Historical monument in Santiago, Chile.
Casa de Velasco is a colonial mansion located at the corner of Santo Domingo and Mac-Iver streets in downtown Santiago. The structure spans two floors and features three interior courtyards arranged in a traditional colonial residential layout.
The land was granted to conquistador Esteban Hernández in 1556, but the current building was constructed in 1730 using adobe and clay tiles. The structure underwent significant modifications over the centuries that followed.
Since 2019, the building hosts the Chilean Crafts Foundation, which showcases and supports national artisanal traditions through exhibitions and educational activities.
The building sits in Santiago's historic center and is easily accessible by public transportation. The courtyards and exhibition spaces are clearly marked and open to visitors interested in exploring the interior layout.
During its 1928 restoration, the building incorporated architectural elements from other demolished colonial structures, including original railings, wooden beams, and doors. These salvaged pieces create a layered architectural history within the walls.
