Canchis Province, Administrative province in southern highlands, Peru.
Canchis Province covers 3,999 square kilometers with eight districts including Sicuani, Checacupe, Combapata, Marangani, Pitumarca, San Pablo, San Pedro, and Tinta.
Established on October 14, 1833, through the division of Tinta Province, Canchis became an independent territory with Sicuani designated as its capital the following year.
The province maintains strong Quechua heritage with 58 percent of residents speaking Quechua as their first language, while Spanish serves as the primary language for 41 percent.
Travelers reach Canchis through major roads from Cusco, with regular bus services connecting to Sicuani and other district centers throughout the administrative region.
The Raqchi archaeological site near Willkanuta River contains extensive Inca period structures, positioning Canchis as a significant historical location between Cusco and Puno.
