Canas Province

Canas is a province in Cuzco Region made up of eight districts spread across mountainous land. Yanaoca serves as the administrative center where most provincial services are based.

The province was part of Spanish colonial administration and later underwent changes following Peru's independence. These transitions shaped how the districts and communities are organized today.

Most residents speak Quechua as their main language and follow customs rooted in Andean mountain life for generations. You will notice this heritage in how people dress, celebrate, and organize their communities.

The districts connect through a network of regional roads that intersect with the main highway running through Cuzco Region. Most travelers reach the area from Cuzco city or neighboring regions.

The La Raya mountain chain crosses through the province and forms a natural watershed dividing different river basins. This prominent geological feature is visible from distance and shapes the landscape noticeably.
