Caja de Depósitos y Consignaciones, Cultural heritage building in Lima District, Peru.
Caja de Depósitos y Consignaciones is a Beaux-Arts building located at Jirón Huallaga 400 with three exhibition halls connected by colonnaded peristyles and illuminated by stained glass windows imported from Bordeaux, France. The structure displays horizontal ribbed cladding on the first level and Doric columns arranged on the upper floors.
The building was constructed in 1917 as a financial institution designed by architect Ricardo de Jaxa Malachowski in the Beaux-Arts style. It later transformed from its original banking purpose into a venue supporting artistic education and cultural exhibitions.
The center now functions as an integral part of the National School of Fine Arts, providing exhibition spaces and classrooms for artistic education.
The venue is centrally located in Lima and easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should wear comfortable footwear and note that exhibitions and educational activities run throughout the year.
The stained glass windows were specifically imported from Bordeaux and represent a rare fusion of French craftsmanship with early 20th-century Peruvian architecture. This artistic glazing continues to shape the distinctive light quality throughout the exhibition spaces.
