Legislative Palace of Peru, Government building in Lima, Peru
The Legislative Palace faces Plaza Bolivar and features a French academic style facade with three female figures representing the triumphant nation. The building houses the Congress Chamber, the Raul Porras Barrenechea Hall, and offices for the Congress President and parliamentary groups.
Construction of the Legislative Palace began in 1906 under Polish architect Ricardo de Jaxa Malachowski's direction. The project extended over several decades until its completion in 1939.
The Congress Chamber displays handmade ceiling decorations by Italian artist Victor Altissimo, showing how international craftsmanship was woven into this space. Visitors can observe these intricate artistic details when walking through the hall.
The building sits on Plaza Bolivar in downtown Lima and is easily reached from major transit hubs and nearby museums. Visitors should wear appropriate attire and prepare for security checks before entering.
The building contains a replica of Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario's seat, a naval hero who served as a congressional deputy before the conflict with Chile. This chair preserves the memory of one of Peru's important maritime figures.
