Carabayllo District, Administrative district in Northern Lima, Peru
Carabayllo extends over 346 square kilometers, making it the largest district in Lima Metropolitan Area with an elevation of 238 meters above sea level.
The district, created by General José de San Martín on August 4, 1821, initially encompassed all territory north of the Rímac River up to Canta Province.
The San Pedro Church, constructed in 1575, stands as the oldest religious structure in northern Lima and represents the district's colonial architectural heritage.
Tupac Amaru Avenue serves as the primary transportation route connecting Carabayllo with central Lima and neighboring districts through public transit services.
The Temple of Huacoy within Carabayllo contains an ancient observatory, recognized among the earliest astronomical structures constructed in the Americas.
