Huaca Santa Rosa

Huaca Santa Rosa is an archaeological site in San Martín de Porres containing remains from pre-Columbian times alongside later colonial-era adobe structures. The site shows how this location was built and rebuilt across different periods of history.

The site began as an extension of the nearby Garagay complex, connected by pottery findings that show they existed at the same time. Later, colonial settlers used the land to build hacienda structures.

The site shows layers of different cultures stacked on top of each other, with Spanish colonial buildings built over older structures beneath. Walking through reveals how people adapted and changed the space across different periods.

The site is about ten minutes away from Garagay and can be reached via Daniel Alcides Carrión Avenue. The area is fairly small, so a visit does not take much time.

The site caretaker has kept detailed records of archaeological discoveries for more than four decades. These notes offer valuable insights that would otherwise remain undocumented.
