Huaca La Florida, Archaeological complex in Rímac, Peru
Huaca La Florida is an archaeological site with raised adobe platforms and structures spread across the Rímac district in Lima. The complex held ceremonial spaces and residential areas built by several civilizations over centuries of occupation.
The site was founded between 200 and 700 AD by the Lima culture. After that period, the Wari people took control and added their structures, and the Inca later did the same.
The place shows how different peoples layered their settlements here, with the Lima culture building first, followed by the Wari and then the Inca. Walking through, you can observe how each civilization left its mark on the structures and landscape.
Guided tours help visitors understand the different layers and structures across the site. It is helpful to wear comfortable shoes since you will walk on uneven ground and the sun can be quite strong.
Excavations have uncovered mummified remains from different time periods, some over a thousand years old. These discoveries show that the place served not only as a ritual center but also as a burial ground.
