Casa Cohen

Casa Cohen is a single-story structure featuring a facade adorned with semi-circular arches and colored mosaic patterns that cover its walls. The building combines neoclassical moldings with a light blue glazed tile roof that defines its overall appearance.

The building was constructed in 1905 by Jewish merchant Jaime Cohen as a trading post during the Amazon rubber boom. It functioned as a center for rubber exports and the distribution of European goods throughout the region.

The building shows how European design ideas mixed with local building methods in its decorated facades. This blend reflects how different cultures met in Iquitos and created something new together.

The building is located on Jiron Prospero street in the heart of the city and is easy to find. Today it houses a supermarket and can be viewed from outside, allowing visitors to admire the architecture at any time.

Owner Jaime Cohen was one of the few Jewish merchants who settled in the Peruvian Amazon during the rubber boom. His investment in this building shows the economic opportunities the region offered to immigrants at that time.
