Centro histórico de Iquitos

The area experienced major growth during the rubber boom between 1880 and 1914, when European merchants built mansions and trading houses. This economic peak left the architectural imprint visible throughout the district today.

The Belen Market reflects daily life with its display of traditional remedies, regional produce, and handmade goods sold by local vendors. Visitors can observe how these items connect communities to their environment and customs.

The district is reachable only by plane via the international airport, as Iquitos has no road connections to other cities. Visitors should plan to explore on foot to notice the architectural details throughout the streets.

The Iron House was transported in pieces up the Amazon River during the 1800s and assembled on site as a metal structure. It stands as evidence of ambitious construction efforts during the rubber wealth period.
