Iquitos District

Iquitos District is an administrative area in Maynas Province covering rainforest terrain with waterways and thick forest. The region sits at low elevation and is shaped entirely by its river systems and dense woodland.

Established in 1866, the district shifted from a military command into an independent administrative territory. This change reflected growing political autonomy in the Amazon region.
