Nueva Cajamarca District

Nueva Cajamarca District is an administrative area in Rioja Province that spreads across the upper Amazon region of Peru. The land sits at about 875 meters (2,870 feet) elevation and is covered by rainforest, with small settlements scattered throughout the area.

The district was officially established in 1984, marking a turning point for local administration in the area. This creation allowed the scattered communities to organize better and manage their shared resources.

The population here comes mainly from Andean migrants who brought their farming ways with them, and you can see these traditions reflected in how the land is worked and the crops that are grown.

A weekly Sunday market draws people from different settlements to buy and sell farm products like coffee, rice, cocoa, and plantains. This is the best time to see how the local economy works and experience the rhythm of community life.
