Hoyts Abasto, Movie theater in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Hoyts Abasto is a multiplex movie theater on the top floor of the Abasto Shopping mall on Avenida Corrientes in Buenos Aires. The complex has twelve screening rooms offering different formats, including 3D, laser 4K projection, reclining-seat premium rooms, and motion-effect 4D rooms.
The building that houses the theater was originally the Abasto wholesale market, built in the 1930s to supply the city with food. In the 1990s it was converted into a shopping mall, and Hoyts opened one of its largest cinema complexes in Argentina there.
The theater sits inside the Abasto Shopping mall, a former market building now converted into a commercial center, in a neighborhood strongly associated with Carlos Gardel. Visitors who walk around after a film will quickly notice murals and monuments dedicated to the famous tango singer just outside.
The easiest way to get here is by subway, using the Line B station Carlos Gardel, which lets out right at the mall entrance. Those who drive can use the shopping mall parking garage, where a cinema ticket purchase often comes with a parking discount.
The theater's XD room features a wall-to-wall screen paired with a laser projector designed specifically for that room's dimensions. The sound system in that room is built to send audio from multiple directions at once, creating a listening experience that feels noticeably different from a standard screening room.
