SAFICO building, Art Deco office building on Avenida Corrientes, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The SAFICO building is a tall office structure on Avenida Corrientes with 25 floors and a symmetrical front facade. A six-story pyramid section rises at the rear, giving the structure a distinctive profile from certain angles.
Swiss engineer Walter Moll designed the structure in 1934 during a period of rapid vertical growth in Buenos Aires. The project marked the beginning of an era when the city was reshaping its skyline dramatically.
The building reflects the rationalist beliefs of 1930s Buenos Aires, with clean geometric forms that expressed confidence in progress and modern thinking. The entrance hall retains Art Deco details that remain visible today.
The building sits directly on Avenida Corrientes and is easy to spot and reach from the street. Its location on this main avenue makes it straightforward to view from outside.
The top three floors originally held a multi-story residential apartment for a SAFICO executive, providing luxury living space in downtown Buenos Aires. This private residential use in the upper section was uncommon for an office building of that era.
