The Buenos Aires Stock Exchange occupies a Louis XVI (Beaux-Arts) building designed by Alejandro Christophersen in 1913 and inaugurated in 1916, its facades clad in imitation Paris stone. The photograph shows the pale beige front above a rusticated darker base, with a row of tall columns under a triangular pediment carved with figures and the frieze inscription "BOLSA DE COMERCIO". A dark curved mansard roof with small round dormers tops the block, and a glass-curtain annex by Mario Roberto Álvarez, finished in 1977, stands beside it.

The institution was founded in 1854 and served as Argentina's first financial exchange of this kind. It succeeded an earlier financial institution established in the early 19th century.

The exchange's library holds over 20,000 volumes on stock exchanges, securities markets, commercial law, corporations, banks and currency, along with daily newspapers, technical journals and magazines. It is a member of UNIRED, a national network giving access to 1.3 million bibliographic entries, and is upgrading its database of 28,000 records.

The facility operates on weekdays during business hours for trading stocks, bonds, and futures contracts under financial regulation. Access to the active trading floors is restricted to authorized financial professionals and institutional participants.
