The National University of La Plata is a public research institution in the Argentine city of La Plata, organized into 17 faculties that offer more than 100 degree programs. Its buildings are distributed throughout the city and include lecture halls, laboratories, and scientific collections.
The institution opened in 1897 as a provincial university and was transformed into a national institution in 1905 under Joaquín V. González. It has since grown into a major center for teaching and research in Argentina.
The university maintains extensive paleontological and anthropological collections, representing scientific developments throughout South America.
