Harrods Buenos Aires

Harrods Buenos Aires was a department store in Edwardian style that occupied an entire city block between four streets, featuring cedar floors and granite stairs. Inside, multiple departments sold luxury goods ranging from Italian suits to imported jewelry all in one location.

The store opened in 1914 as the only international branch of London's Harrods and became Argentina's leading retail destination. It operated until 1998, influencing shopping habits for decades.

The tea room served as a meeting place for Buenos Aires society and drew notable writers like Jorge Luis Borges to its tables. People came here to gather and experience refined surroundings.

The store was accessible from Florida Street, one of the city's busiest shopping streets and easy to reach on foot. The building was large and required time to explore all its sections properly.

The store once displayed a live Indian elephant on the upper floor and positioned a London double-decker bus in its showroom. These unusual attractions drew visitors who came to see such uncommon spectacles.
