Galerías Pacífico, Commercial building and shopping center in downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina
Galerías Pacífico is a large Renaissance Revival building occupying an entire downtown block in Buenos Aires, bounded by Florida, Viamonte, San Martín, and Córdoba Avenue. The structure spans three floors with a distinctive glass cupola and now functions as a shopping center housing international brands, leather shops, and food vendors.
Designed by Roland Le Vacher in 1888, it was originally intended as an Argentine branch of Paris's Au Bon Marché department store. The building became an important commercial landmark in downtown Buenos Aires throughout the twentieth century.
The central dome features murals created by Argentine artists between 1945 and 1947, showing scenes of daily life and labor. These artworks represent an important moment when local painters decorated a major commercial space with nationalist pride.
The complex is located in a busy downtown area easily accessible from multiple entrances on different streets. Inside you'll find shopping, food options, currency exchange, and ATMs spread across three floors with clear navigation.
The building houses Centro Cultural Borges, named after the celebrated Argentine writer, offering tango classes and art exhibitions alongside shopping. This cultural venue adds a layer of artistic engagement rarely found in commercial spaces.
