Cabildo of Buenos Aires
Cabildo of Buenos Aires, National history museum in Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The National Historical Museum of the Cabildo features a colonial architectural design with white walls and prominent arches across two levels in downtown Buenos Aires.
Built in the late 18th century, this former town hall served as the government headquarters during Spanish colonial rule and became the center of the 1810 May Revolution.
The museum displays numerous exhibits about Argentine independence, including original furniture, weapons, documents, paintings, and traditional items from the colonial period.
Located at Bolivar 65, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM, offering free guided tours in Spanish and English.
The building underwent multiple modifications throughout its history, with several arches removed in 1894 to create space for the Avenida de Mayo construction.
