Sarmiento Park, City park in Nueva Córdoba, Argentina.
Sarmiento Park is a 17-hectare green space in Nueva Córdoba with lakes, gardens, and recreational areas that stretch along the Cañada Brook and overlook the National University of Córdoba campus. The grounds feature a natatorium, an amphitheater, multiple walking paths, and a Biodiversity Park that replaced the former zoo in 2023.
French urbanist Carlos Thays designed this green space in 1889 at the request of Miguel Crisol, and it opened in 1911 named after President Domingo Sarmiento. The transformation into its modern form took place over many decades, with the most recent major change being the conversion of the zoo into a Biodiversity Park.
Two art museums frame this green space: the Emilio Caraffa Museum and the Ferreyra Palace with its collections, which together define the cultural character of the neighborhood. These institutions reflect how the city built its artistic identity around this central location.
The park is easy to navigate with well-marked paths and different zones for various activities, from quiet strolls to active play. Visit on weekends and holidays when more facilities and attractions operate, or on weekdays for a more relaxed experience.
The park houses a Super Park amusement section with about 40 different games and rides, operating with extended hours on weekends and holidays. This transforms the location into more than just a natural space, attracting families with varied interests.
