Concepción

Concepción is a city in Paraguay's northern region that stretches along the Paraguay River. The town sits in a river landscape where the Ypané River also forms a natural boundary.

The city was founded in 1787 by Spanish Governor Agustín Fernando de Pinedo as a strategic defense point against Portuguese territorial claims. This founding shaped the region's development for centuries to come.

The Roman Catholic Diocese shapes religious life here through its cathedral, which displays an altar created by artist Carlos Colombino. This altar reflects the artistic traditions that the community values and supports.

Route 5 connects the city to Pedro Juan Caballero and Asunción, making overland travel convenient. The river port also offers water transport for those who prefer to travel by boat.
