The Palácio das Indústrias is an eclectic building with a pink and cream facade and white stone trim, fronting Parque Dom Pedro II. Its base has a row of tall arched openings forming a colonnade, above which sit round-arched windows and relief panels. A central bay rises above the roofline to a square clock tower with a small domed cupola, and a smaller brick-toned tower stands to the right.
The building was constructed in 1924 and first served for exhibitions about industry. Over time the city used it for different public purposes before it became a museum.
The museum inside shows objects that document daily life and how people understand science and nature. Visitors can see how different cultures use and develop technology.
The building has multiple entrances and wide hallways that are easy to navigate. The location in a park with public transportation nearby makes it simple to reach the grounds.
The clock in the square tower was converted to a digital mechanism during the 2017 facade restoration; its original mechanism, weighing about 300 kg, was moved to the Catavento Museum inside the building.
