Isaura Teles Alves de Lima lagoon, Recreational lagoon in Parque Portugal, Campinas, Brazil
Isaura Teles Alves de Lima lagoon is a freshwater lake inside Parque Portugal in Campinas, Brazil, surrounded by a paved path that runs along the entire shoreline. The lake is large enough for pedal boats and sits at the center of the park, with tree-lined banks and open grassy areas nearby.
The park and lake were donated to the city of Campinas by a landowner, and the lagoon was named after his wife, Isaura Teles Alves de Lima. That donation laid the foundation for what became one of the most visited green spaces in the city.
The lagoon sits inside Parque Portugal, which locals also call "Lagoa do Taquaral," and the park is used daily by families, joggers, and cyclists who treat it as a neighborhood gathering spot. On weekends the area around the water fills with people of all ages, giving it the feel of a classic Brazilian public park.
The path around the lake is well maintained and can be walked or cycled, though some sections can get slippery after rain so sturdy footwear helps. Pedal boat rentals are available at stations along the shore and are easy to find once you are inside the park.
A replica of Pedro Alvares Cabral's ship Anunciacao stands on a wooden platform right at the water's edge and can be seen from most parts of the park. This ship model is the only one of its kind in the city and marks the arrival of the Portuguese in Brazil.
