Planetário de Campinas

The Planetarium of Campinas is an astronomy education facility located in Taquaral Park that uses a projection system to display celestial objects and phenomena on an interior dome ceiling. Visitors sit inside the theater and look upward to watch realistic presentations of stars, planets, and cosmic events.

The planetarium was established in 1987 after professors from the University of Campinas created the project to expand science education in the region. The facility grew from an effort to make astronomy knowledge accessible to local students and families.

The facility serves as an educational center where students and general public learn about astronomical phenomena through simulated space journeys and night sky observations.

It works best to visit in the afternoon when presentations run regularly and the venue is open for school groups and individual visitors. The surrounding park offers paths and seating areas if you want to spend extra time exploring before or after your session.

The projection system lets visitors observe the night sky from virtually any location on Earth, not just the local Campinas perspective. You can also travel backward and forward in time to see how star patterns shifted across centuries.
