Vista Chinesa, Scenic viewpoint in Alto da Boa Vista, Brazil

Vista Chinesa is a Chinese-style pavilion set at 380 meters elevation that opens up views across Rio's south zone, Guanabara Bay, and the Tijuca Forest. The structure combines bamboo and concrete in a design that fits naturally into the surrounding mountain landscape.

Built in 1906, the structure honors Chinese agricultural contributions to Brazil through the introduction of tea cultivation in the 1800s. This connection to tea culture makes it a monument to that era of exchange between nations.

The pavilion reflects a blend of Eastern design and Brazilian building methods through its bamboo and concrete elements visible in every corner. This architectural style shows how different cultures came together in Brazil's landscape.

The site sits within Tijuca National Park and is reachable by car along Estrada da Vista Chinesa or through guided jeep tours. Walking paths are well-maintained and viewing areas are accessible for different fitness levels.

The location served as a testing ground for the 2016 Olympic cycling route, where athletes faced steep climbs and technical descents during road racing events. This challenging terrain made it memorable for sports fans during the games.
