AquaRio, Public aquarium in Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
AquaRio contains 28 tanks holding 4.5 million liters of saltwater and houses over 8,000 marine animals across 350 different species from global oceans.
The facility opened in 2016 as part of an extensive urban development project to transform Rio de Janeiro's port area before the Olympic Games.
The research center collaborates with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro's Marine Biology Department to study marine species and advance conservation methods.
The entrance displays different rates for Rio residents, children, students, seniors, and people with disabilities, with free admission for children under three.
A 20-meter acrylic tunnel allows visitors to walk seven meters below water level while observing sharks, manta rays, and other marine species.

Marine museums present the history of seafaring, scientific exploration of the oceans, and the diversity of marine life. These institutions display ship models, nautical instruments, aquariums with living sea creatures, and exhibitions about oceanography. Visitors learn about historical voyages of discovery, modern ocean research, and the protection of marine ecosystems. Notable examples include the Oceanogràfic in Valencia with its various marine biotopes, the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam with its collection on Dutch naval history, and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, founded in 1910. The Maritime Museum of San Diego preserves historic vessels, while the Museum of Oceanography in Sopot documents Baltic Sea research. These museums combine scientific education with the fascination for seas and oceans.
Rio de Janeiro is more than a city; it is a living backdrop. Between mountains and sea, the Brazilian metropolis showcases its most famous landscapes: Christ the Redeemer overlooking Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf shining in the sun, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches where music and sand never sleep. But Rio is not just postcards. In the streets of Santa Teresa, colorful azulejos climb the Selarón stairs, museums reinvent the modern city, parks hide tropical forests, and lookouts reveal stunning panoramas. From samba to nature, from colonial heritage to futuristic architecture, each neighborhood tells a different face of Rio. Here are the must-visit places to experience its energy, beauty, and the unique joie de vivre.
