Parish Church of Saint Antony

The Parish Church of Saint Antony is a church building in Ouro Branco that displays a facade with stone columns, corners, and balconies featuring an arch and trilobed oculus window. The structure preserves Portuguese architectural influences and remains an important cultural property in the region.

Construction began before 1717 when the first wedding ceremony took place there, and final works were completed in 1779. This extended building period reflects the region's growth during the colonial era under Portuguese rule.

Inside, Master Ataide's illusionist paintings decorate the walls in rococo style, showing Saint Anthony, the Virgin Mary, and Baby Jesus with remarkable detail. These works create a sense of depth that draws the eye upward and fills the space with spiritual imagery.

The church is open during service hours and welcomes visitors, though respecting its active use as a place of worship is important. Walking slowly through the interior allows time to appreciate the architectural details and painted surfaces throughout the space.

The main altar holds a spherical tabernacle with a sun symbol on its small door, representing Christ as the light of the world. This distinctive artistic choice blends religious symbolism with careful craftsmanship in an unusual way.
