Biribiri State Park

Biribiri State Park is a protected area with mountainous terrain in the Serra do Espinhaço range, where different habitats exist from high plateaus to riverine zones. The land rises and falls across varied elevations, creating diverse conditions for plants and wildlife.

The area was shaped in the 1800s by a textile factory that emerged in nearby Vila de Biribiri and became the economic center of the region for generations. This factory defined how people lived here for roughly one hundred years before closing.

Ancient rock inscriptions scattered throughout the park reveal stories of people who lived and worked in this region over centuries. These markings show how mining shaped daily life and the landscape in this part of Brazil.

The area is accessible by simple dirt roads that lead to various waterfalls and allow walks through nature. Visitors should prepare for changing elevations and bring proper footwear and water.

The area is home to rare animal species like maned wolves, cougars, and giant anteaters that live in the park's different forest zones. These creatures can be spotted while walking and show why this protected area matters for endangered wildlife.
