Federico Román Province, Remote province in northeastern Pando Department, Bolivia.
Federico Román Province is an administrative region in northeastern Pando Department spanning Amazonian lowlands between the Beni River and the Brazilian border. It divides into three municipalities: Nueva Esperanza, Villa Nueva, and Santos Mercado, with Nueva Esperanza serving as the provincial capital.
The province was founded on October 19, 1963 during President Víctor Paz Estenssoro's administration. It emerged from the eastern territory of the former Abuná Province.
Portuguese-speaking communities and Spanish speakers share this border region, creating a mixed-language environment shaped by proximity to Brazil.
The area is heavily forested and difficult to access with limited infrastructure in the towns. Visitors should expect basic facilities and inquire locally about routes and travel conditions.
The population density reaches only about 0,5 inhabitants per square kilometer, making it one of Bolivia's most sparsely populated areas. This extremely low density means vast forest stretches remain almost untouched by human settlement.
