Ceilândia, Administrative region in Federal District, Brazil.
Ceilândia is an administrative region in the Federal District of Brazil, sitting at roughly 1000 meters elevation with several residential neighborhoods, shopping centers and schools. The central fair covers a large area and offers food markets along with local shops.
This region was created in March 1971 through a government campaign to relocate residents from informal settlements near Brasília. Rapid urban growth in the capital led to this organized transfer of families into the new area.
Casa do Cantador serves as a center for northeastern art, hosting regular performances by local singers and storytellers. The name comes from an abbreviation of the settlement eradication campaign that later became the identity of the place.
Metro stations at Ceilândia Sul, Centro and Norte link the region to other parts of the Federal District and make getting around the area easier. Most shops and facilities sit along main streets and are easy to reach on foot during the day.
The water tower acts as a central landmark, visible from many parts of the region and often used as a meeting point. The area holds one of the largest concentrations of commercial enterprises in the Federal District with thousands of small businesses.
