Edifício A Tarde, Art Deco office building in Praça Castro Alves, Salvador, Brazil
Edifício A Tarde is a seven-story Art Deco office building at Praça Castro Alves featuring geometric decorations and tall windows toward the Bay of All Saints. The complex underwent extensive restoration and now houses the luxury Fasano hotel spanning multiple levels.
The building was constructed between 1928 and 1930 by E. Kemnitz & Cia and served as headquarters for A Tarde newspaper until 1975. This period documents the growth of print media and Salvador's modernization during that era.
The building reflects the Art Deco language that shaped Brazilian commercial spaces in the 1930s and remains protected as a cultural heritage site today. Visitors can observe the geometric patterns and vertical lines characteristic of this architectural movement.
The hotel is centrally located and provides direct access to Salvador's main attractions around Praça Castro Alves. Visitors should note that the bay is best viewed from the upper floors and rooftop areas.
The original iron spiral staircase from the newspaper era is preserved and now connects different dining areas of the hotel. This metalwork shows the craftsmanship of the 1930s.
