Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport, International airport in Lauro de Freitas, Brazil
Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport is a commercial aviation hub located in Lauro de Freitas serving the Salvador metropolitan area. The facility handles daily passenger traffic and offers domestic and international flight connections.
The airport was established in 1925 as Santo Amaro do Ipitanga Airport and underwent major reconstruction in 1941 through collaboration between American and Brazilian authorities. This wartime expansion shaped the facility into its current form.
Local residents continue to refer to the airport by its former name, Dois de Julho International Airport, which commemorates the independence of Bahia state.
The terminal is situated approximately 28 kilometers north of Salvador with free shuttle service connecting to the city center. A metro station on Line 2 provides convenient access for travelers heading downtown.
The facility shares operational space with Salvador Air Force Base, with both civilian and military aviation functions running in parallel. Travelers can observe this dual-use arrangement through designated military zones visible throughout the grounds.
