Isle of the Friars, Island in Bay of All Saints, Salvador, Brazil.
The Isle of the Friars extends over 6 kilometers in length with a fifteen-pointed star shape and contains sections of Atlantic Forest vegetation.
Two friars met their end at the hands of Tupinambá people during early Portuguese colonization, giving the island its current name.
The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Chapel of Loreto from the 18th century represent religious architectural heritage on the island.
Visitors can reach the island through regular boat services from Madre de Deus island or private vessels departing from Salvador.
The island served as a quarantine station with a lazaretto where enslaved individuals were held before being sold in Salvador.
