Ponta Verde Lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with alternating red and white horizontal stripes that sits on concrete pillars shaped like a pyramid. The structure reaches about 11 meters high and was constructed using materials originally used in oil drilling operations.
The original structure was built in 1922 using an acetylene gas system for illumination. In 1949 the tower was replaced with a new design that gave it the distinctive striped appearance seen today.
The lighthouse serves as a local landmark where visitors and residents gather to watch the horizon and experience the connection between the city and the ocean. It marks the boundary where urban Maceio meets the Atlantic shoreline.
The lighthouse sits directly on the beach and is easy to reach on foot from downtown Maceio. Visitors should arrive in daylight hours to see the structure clearly and enjoy the views along the coastline.
