Pilar, Administrative municipality in Alagoas, Brazil
Pilar spans across 249 square kilometers of land in the Maceió Metropolitan Region, positioned at 148 meters above sea level.
The region started as a fishing village near Lagoa do Sul, with Gabriel Soares da Cunha establishing the Old Sugar Mill in the 17th century.
The Rosário Church, constructed in 1800, marks the initial development point of the settlement when it was known as Capela de São Mateus.
The municipality connects to neighboring cities through BR-101 and AL-407 highways, facilitating transportation between Atalaia, Rio Largo, and Satuba.
On March 28, 1876, Pilar became the location of Brazil's final official execution when a person named Francisco was executed by hanging.
