Buíque is an administrative division in Pernambuco's Agreste region, located about 278 kilometers from Recife at an elevation of 798 meters. The municipality extends across 1,345 square kilometers and serves as an important agricultural center for the area.
The settlement began in 1752 as Campos de Buíque, a name derived from Tupi meaning 'Place of Snakes'. It was granted city status in 1874.
The municipality is shaped by farming traditions that define daily life for residents. People cultivate cashew nuts, manioc, and raise livestock throughout the area.
