Museu Casa Maria Mariá

Museu Casa Maria Mariá is a preserved residence displaying furniture, photographs, and everyday objects from early 20th century northeastern Brazil. The rooms document the life of a teacher and journalist while revealing how people furnished and organized their homes during that period.

The site was established in 1993 as a memorial and repository for regional artifacts and documents. This timing made it possible to preserve both the building and personal collections from decades of community involvement.

Maria Mariá worked as an educator and journalist who championed women's rights and public schooling across the region. The rooms show how she lived and worked, revealing the role of women in local society and their contributions to community life.

The museum sits on Rua Correia de Oliveira and is managed by the local Department of Culture. Visitors should plan ahead by checking current hours and any access requirements before arriving.

The collection features a working gramophone that shows how music entered homes during that era. Traditional coffee grinding equipment is also displayed, revealing the daily rituals and kitchen practices that remain central to regional life today.
