Chã Grande, Municipality in Pernambuco, Brazil.
Chã Grande is a municipality in Pernambuco located roughly 80 kilometers west of Recife in a hilly region. It sits at an elevation of about 478 meters and is surrounded by agricultural land.
The settlement developed between 1875 and 1878 when people from Vitória de Santo Antão moved to new lands. This movement led to the formation of the village of Mumbucas, which later became known by its current name.
The Nordestino do Agricultor Festival brings together farmers from the region and showcases traditional farming methods still practiced in Pernambuco today. Visitors can speak directly with farmers and learn about the agricultural culture of the northeast.
Visitors will find regular open-air markets where locals buy and sell goods. Access to the area is straightforward, though visitors should be prepared for the hilly terrain.
The name Chã Grande refers to the large flat elevated terrain where the town sits, which was once covered with palm trees. This vegetation shaped the landscape before urban development.
