Genipabu, Protected beach in Extremoz, Brazil
Genipabu is a beach with white sand and tall dunes that stretch along the shoreline, creating expansive sandy terrain. The waters are clear and the landscape displays natural formations shaped by wind and ocean currents.
The area was designated as a protected coastal region to preserve the natural ecosystems of Rio Grande do Norte. This decision helped safeguard the dunes and beaches from overuse and environmental damage.
The place is known for artisan fishing and traditional coastal customs that visitors can experience through local food and activities. The community here maintains these practices and welcomes guests to participate in them.
The location sits about 30 minutes from Natal and is reachable by regular bus service or taxi from the city center. Visitors should arrive early in the day since the sun becomes very strong midday and shade is scarce.
Visitors can ride camels across the dunes or take dune buggy tours to explore the sand formations. These activities blend the beach experience with adventure through the expansive sandy landscape.

Brazil's coastline stretches over 4,600 miles (7,400 kilometers), connecting tropical forests, sandbars, and several climate zones. In Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana and Ipanema draw visitors with their urban energy, while Fernando de Noronha offers bays shaped by marine life and volcanic rock. Further north, palm trees and dunes define the scenery in Ceará, where Jericoacoara is known for kitesurfing. Bahia holds Praia do Espelho and Taipus de Fora, where coral reefs and tidal pools give snorkelers refuge. Santa Catarina and São Paulo combine wave breaks with rainforest trails leading to remote beaches like Praia dos Castelhanos. Pernambuco and Alagoas feature warm, calm waters and natural pools that form at low tide, including Porto de Galinhas and Maragogi. In the north, Alter do Chão on the Tapajós River creates a freshwater beach surrounded by Amazon vegetation. Each region shows different tides, currents, and ecosystems, from sheltered lagoons to open Atlantic shores.
