National Museum of Namibia

The National Museum of Namibia occupies the Alte Feste, the oldest standing building in Windhoek, which houses exhibits on history and culture from different periods. Inside you find artifacts, reproductions of rock art, and collections that document the diversity of Namibian peoples, while the outdoor grounds feature historic railway locomotives.

The Alte Feste was built as a German colonial fort between 1890 and 1915 and remained Windhoek's oldest structure. Following Namibia's independence in 1990, it was transformed into a national museum to preserve and share the country's history.
