Canal Walk, shopping centre in Cape Town, South Africa
Canal Walk is a large shopping center in Century City with over 400 stores selling clothing, accessories, jewelry, and various other goods. The center features wide, open corridors with large glass windows, 16 restaurants and bars, a food court, and 17 cinemas including a luxury venue called Cinema Privé.
The center opened in the late 1990s and has expanded several times to include more stores and entertainment options. Today it stands as one of the largest shopping centers in the region and has become a popular destination for both locals and visitors.
The name Canal Walk refers to the waterways that flow through the center, giving the space its character. Visitors treat it as a social gathering place, especially on weekends, where families and friends meet to shop, eat, and spend time together.
The center opens from 9 in the morning until 9 at night every day and offers over 6500 parking spaces, many covered, plus disabled parking and spaces for parents with prams. Visiting is convenient year-round, with dedicated areas for babies, information centers, and easily accessible stores.
The center houses Wonderland Play Centre for children and sits near the MTN Science Centre, making it a place where families can spend full days on weekends. A tourism shuttle operates from the center to take visitors to nearby attractions like Table Mountain and Cape Town beaches.
