Spice route paarl, Wine and food destination in Paarl, South Africa
The Spice Route is a wine and food destination on a farm property in Paarl with mountain views, where multiple specialized producers operate. The site includes wine estates, a brewery, a distillery, and artisanal food makers in a unified location.
The farm was established in 1693 as Leeuwenjacht and developed as agricultural land for centuries. In 1997, Charles Back transformed the property into the current culinary center.
The producers on site showcase South African craftsmanship through winemaking, distilling, brewing, and food preparation at multiple tasting venues. Visitors can watch and experience how local artisanal traditions continue in contemporary ways.
Visitors can purchase a Spice Route Passport valid for one year, which provides access to tastings at five different establishments on the property. This pass allows you to explore the various venues at your own pace.
The Trading Company displays handcrafted items from regional artisans that visitors can purchase. At Môigoeters Creative Studio, guests can paint their own ceramics for glazing and firing.
