African Leadership Academy, secondary school in Johannesberg, South Africa
The African Leadership Academy is a secondary school in Johannesburg with a modern campus in Honeydew that accepts around 120 new students each year. The grounds feature classrooms, dormitories, sports fields, and a large dining hall where students from different countries gather and interact.
The school was founded in 2008 after its founders Fred Swaniker and Chris Bradford demonstrated how to train young African leaders through their Global Leadership Adventures program. The project emerged from a vision to develop a new generation of leaders across the continent.
The school brings together students from more than 40 African countries, each bringing their own languages, traditions, and perspectives to campus. This diversity shapes daily life and creates a space where different cultures naturally meet and influence each other.
The school is located in Honeydew, on the outskirts of Johannesburg, and is best reached by private transport or organized school shuttles. Visitors should arrange a visit in advance, as the grounds are not open for walk-ins and have a security gate.
While studying at the school, students are expected to create or lead their own project that benefits their community, whether a business venture or a service initiative. This hands-on learning model allows students to turn their ideas into reality and see tangible results.
