Mopani District Municipality is an administrative area in Limpopo Province comprising five local municipalities: Ba-Phalaborwa, Greater Giyani, Greater Tzaneen, Greater Letaba, and Maruleng. The district spans across extensive rural terrain with diverse landscape types.
Mopani District Municipality was established in December 2000 during South Africa's governmental restructuring. Giyani was designated as the administrative seat of the newly formed district.
The region maintains strong Tsonga traditions visible in daily community life. Residents speak Xitsonga and perform traditional dances like xibelani, which remain part of local celebrations and gatherings.
