Nwanedi Provincial Park, State park in northern Limpopo, South Africa
Nwanedi Provincial Park is a nature reserve in the wooded foothills of the Soutpansberg Range, covering approximately 11,000 hectares. Two dams form where the Nwanedi and Luphephe rivers meet, creating key water features across the landscape.
The Soutpansberg mountain range held traditional significance for Venda communities, who called it 'Tha vhani ya muno', meaning mountain of salt. This naming reflects centuries of cultural connection between people and the landscape.
The park takes its name from the Nwanedi River, which shapes the local landscape and geography. Visitors can observe how water sources influence the way wildlife and vegetation thrive throughout the area.
Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, game viewing routes, bird watching, and fishing activities throughout the year in the reserve. Overnight accommodation and camping options allow for extended stays to explore different areas of the park.
White rhinos roam freely in the lowveld zone, grazing among dozens of acacia tree species found throughout the reserve. This combination of large wildlife and varied tree species creates unpredictable encounters during exploration.
