Giyani, Administrative town in Limpopo Province, South Africa

Giyani is an administrative center in Limpopo Province stretching along the northern bank of the Klein Letaba River, with residential areas organized into alphabetically labeled sections from A through F. The layout reflects organized planning that clearly separates different parts of the community.

The town originated in 1903 and later became the capital of Gazankulu in the 1960s, serving as an administrative hub for Tsonga and Shangaan communities. This administrative role shaped the town's organized structure that remains visible today.

The Tsonga language shapes daily communication here, and traditional dances like Xibelani are performed to express local culture through distinctive movements. These art forms remain part of community celebrations and gatherings throughout the year.

The R81 road connects this town to major destinations like Polokwane and Tzaneen, making it accessible from the surrounding region. The Kruger National Park is within reach for day trips from this hub.

This town encompasses 89 villages and 11 traditional tribal authorities, with nine belonging to Tsonga communities and two to the Balobedu people. This decentralized structure makes it an important administrative hub for several ethnic groups.
