Sankuru, Province in Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Sankuru province extends over 105,000 square kilometers of forests, savannas, and river systems in central Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The region transitioned from a district during Belgian colonial rule to province status in 1962, then back to district until 2015 when it regained provincial status.

French serves as the official language while Tshiluba maintains status as the national language throughout the communities of Sankuru province.

Agricultural production includes rice, bananas, pineapples, potatoes, sugar cane, coffee, sorghum, cassavas, and corn across the fertile lands of Sankuru.

The province contains substantial mineral deposits including diamonds, gold, mercury, iron, and cassiterite, alongside rivers teeming with diverse aquatic species.
