Kongolo Bridge

The Kongolo Bridge spans the Lualaba River and connects both banks together. The structure is designed to carry both railway and road traffic, with a single narrow lane that is shared by both types of transportation.

The structure was built during the 1930s in the Belgian colonial period and has shaped the crossing since then. It was later overhauled and renewed in the 1960s to ensure its continued operation.

The bridge links settlements on either side of the Lualaba River and allows people to travel regularly across what would otherwise be a major barrier. Over time, it has become an important meeting point where different trade routes and travel paths intersect.
