Kabanga Nickel Project, Nickel mining operation in Ngara District, Tanzania.
Kabanga Nickel Project is a mining operation in Ngara District that extracts nickel ore alongside copper and cobalt deposits. The facility uses hydrometallurgical processing methods instead of traditional smelting techniques to refine its materials.
The project began in 2021 through a Framework Agreement and was taken over by Lifezone Metals and the Tanzanian government from previous operators. This transition marked a shift in who controlled and directed the mining operation.
The mining operation creates educational and employment opportunities for residents of the Ngara District, integrating local communities into the industrial development process.
The site is located roughly 130 kilometers southwest of Lake Victoria in a remote area of the district. Visitors should expect challenging terrain and limited infrastructure in this region.
The deposit is among the world's largest high-grade nickel sulfide deposits with over 620 kilometers of exploration drilling across the site. This extensive exploration work has enabled precise resource estimation and understanding of the mineral occurrence.
