Kandt House Museum of Natural History, Natural history museum in Nyarugenge district, Rwanda
The three-section museum building sits on Nyarugenge Hill, offering views across the mountains and neighborhoods of old Kigali city.
Richard Kandt selected this location as the German colonial capital in 1907, leading to the construction of administrative buildings including this residence.
The exhibition halls present artifacts and documents about Rwandan society before colonization, focusing on social, economic, and political aspects of daily life.
The museum opens daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with modified hours from 11:00 AM during Umuganda days on the last Saturday of each month.
The facility maintains a live reptile exhibition featuring Nile crocodiles, black mambas, pythons, and cobras found in the Rwandan countryside.
